Inspiration for Bridlington Art
A visit to Bridlington, on the East Coast, UK, always sets me buzzing with art to make.
Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens, Flamborough Head, Danes Dyke and Bempton Cliffs are all near-by, plus two beaches of very different character. South Beach is a long sweeping sandy idyll, while North Beach is a combination of sand and pebbles next to the cliffs which become Flamborough Head. More than enough to inspire endless paintings and prints so these are just the start.
I spend quite a lot of time at Bridlington in East Yorkshire, enjoying a light lunch at The Spa (South Bay), or new leisure centre (North Bay), after a morning/afternoon sketching, or planning oil paintings and linocuts near-by in, or overlooking, the coves on Flamborough Head. That or wandering down the sun-dappled Danes Dyke path to the sea, beach and rock pools, where looking back toward the seaside town reveals a glittering vista on a Summers day – altogether it's one of my (many) favourite places in Yorkshire.
The light over Bridlington is usually rewarding for an artist/painter and I long to do a series of beach paintings capturing it. Only so many hours unfortunately!
