Inspiration for Bridlington & Flamborough Art
A visit to Bridlington or Flamborough Head, on the East Coast of the UK always sets me buzzing with art to make.
Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens, Dane's Dyke and Bempton Cliffs are all becoming part of my East Yorkshire art collection. On top of this richness, the seaside town has two beaches of very different character.
South Beach is a long sweeping sandy idyll. North Beach is a combination of sand and pebbles next to cliffs which become the Site of Special Scientific Interest that's Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs.
There's more than enough in the area to inspire endless paintings and prints. So this collection has grown and grown, and will continue to do so.
Given all that, it's not surprising I spend quite a lot of time at Bridlington in East Yorkshire, or at the coves on Flamborough Head.
There's always an artwork idea to explore or develop during a morning, afternoon, or full day on‑location. Time spent making thumbnails, sketches or paintings is never wasted. I've probably explored almost everywhere in the area, seeking views and exploring compositions for oil paintings and linocuts.
It's the variety that's forever pulling me there. Dane's Dyke is a prime example. It consists of sun‑dappled paths to the sea, and opens out to a mediterranean beach (yes, really) with rock pools. There's its high cliffs and views looking back toward the seaside town that often reveal a glittering vista on a Summer's day.
Altogether the place is one of my (many) favourites in Yorkshire. I struggle to avoid gushing over it.
The light over Bridlington is usually rewarding for an artist/painter whatever the weather, and often because of it.
