A Devon Painting, or Two…
The South Hams – A painter and printmaker's haven
Updated: November 2018
I spent a lovely week in the South Hams, Devon, during April 2017, looking for inspiration for a Devon painting – I came home with a briming sketchbook and a long painting list.
Based near Torcross and the oasis of calm (in Summer) that is Slapton Ley, I travelled to Coleton Fishacre on the North side of the River Dart at Dartmouth, and West to Burgh Island, taking in Start Point on the way. The weather was exceptionally kind to me all week, so I can confidently say I visited almost everywhere inbetween the three locations, walking some sections of the South West Coast Path at times. An intense, all too short week spent sketching and collecting reference materials, I returned home to North Yorkshire with a whole heap of ideas for paintings on canvas and paper, and a few prints too.
Since my week in Devon, UK, I've been steadily working through my sketches trying to develop the ideas into paintings, often making 9" x 9" acrylics on paper first (Some of which are illustrated below). I've completed two studio oil paintings so far (above), having had to give attention to projects nearer home instead in 2018 unfortunately.
My mission to add another Devon painting – or three – to the two I've completed is still very much on my to-do list.
An Acrylic On Paper Devon Painting, or two…
I will add to these over the coming year, and to the completed paintings above. The paintings below are not available to buy just yet
