» Archived information « If you're looking for original art in Yorkshire, I'm afraid you've missed this opportunity to view it at this gallery.

Check my exhibition programme or my gallery list for where my art is currently, or soon to be, on show.

What follows, is old information written at the time of the exhibition…

April 2023: I'm aware some of this information about Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens is out of date. Please check with their website, easily found by searching on the venue's name.

I'm not even sure the gallery or the artist residencies are still supported at the venue.

Parking & opening times

Free parking and entry to the courtyard containing the gallery, shop, plant stalls and cafe.
Opening times: Hall, gardens, cafe, Courtyard Gallery are open from 11am to 4:30pm each day (May opening times which could be out of date now.)

Where is the Courtyard gallery?

Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens is in the village of Burton Agnes on the main road (A614) to Bridlington from the West. The village is just over six and half miles from Bridlington.

If you're on the main road, the turning to the hall sneaks up on you a bit, so slow down on your way through the village or you'll miss it!

On the North edge of the village is the large free car park for the hall. A short walk from the car park past the church, down a wide gravel path, takes you into the pleasant courtyard.

It's free entry here, with a cafe, a shop, plants to buy and the courtyard gallery immediately on your right. If you decide to visit the Hall and its lovely gardens, which I highly recommend, then normal ticket prices apply, payable in the entrance opposite the gallery.

There are tables out in the courtyard which on a sunny day makes a very pleasant place to enjoy a spot of lunch, or just coffee and cake. Regardless of whether you go in to the hall and gardens, it's a lovely place to stop on your way to or from Bridlington or Flamborough Head.

What will I be able to see?

Lots to see, something for everyone, lots to choose a favourite from!

I'm hoping to be painting in the gallery itself or immediately outside it if the weather is kind. However engrossed I appear to be, feel free to interupt me with any questions or to chat about places to paint, awesome views, Yorkshire loveliness, art, the joys of the garden and hall, and life in general!

In the gallery there is:

  • Centrepiece paintings which are framed studio oil paintings on canvas, both canvas panel and canvas on stretchers.
  • Framed outdoor paintings (plein-air) with quite a few of Burton Agnes Hall  gardens
  • Framed and unframed limited edition original prints – Linocuts
  • Samples of super quality limited editon giclée prints of studio paintings to order from
  • A few framed mini oil paintings
  • Various other unframed media sketches and paintings
  • Art cards, which I'm launching at this event
  • Two A5 books - 'Why Artist's Keep Sketchbooks' and 'Flamborough Head Sketch Book', £5 each.

There will be works inspired by Bridlington, Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens and Flamborough Head. The rest are mostly Yorkshire landscapes too.

Altogether a lot! The gallery may well be bursting at the seams!

Will the art be for sale?

Yes, it's all for sale – original art starting at £45. Small items also available.

You're welcome to just look – art is for looking at. Should you decide to purchase something, you'll be able to pay by card. All the art, art cards and books will be available to buy.

Art cards will be £3 each, two or more cards for £2.50 each; A5 books £5 each

Unframed art

Original art will start at £40 for small "collectables" (both sketches and paintings, all on paper). Limited edition signed giclée prints will start at £70 unframed. Linocut prints start at £80 (*tbc*) unframed.

Framed art

All frames are solid oak or painted natural wood, and custom-made for each artwork. Some are double framed, with an inner frame and an outer frame. All the frames are made to a high quality, with at least two coats of paint if not three, when painted. Even the backs of the pictures are finished to a neat professional standard – as befits the art!

Mini framed oil paintings will be £200 each… I won't have a lot of these so come early! Other framed original oil paintings start at £550. There will also be some large high quality oil paintings available which make striking centrepieces (most of the large paintings are available as limited edition prints).

Orders, collections and payments.

Some items such as giclée or original prints may have to be ordered. A small non-refundable deposit of £20 will be needed on print orders. I'll agree payment/delivery times with you on the day, which will depend on how many orders are in front of yours. As a special offer at this event, I'll waive standard delivery fees, for UK addresses, on orders for unframed prints

I can accept payment by card and if you pay in-full, then you'll be able to take the art away with you. For larger original paintings, I can offer options to buy via deposit and staggered payments - information will be available in the gallery.

Thank you to everyone who popped-in to the gallery to say 'hello', browse, buy and admire!
